The policies Support at Home providers need
Under the new Aged Care Act and the strengthened Quality Standards, providers are expected to have a current, documented policy suite. Here's a plain-English map of what that usually covers. Information only, not legal advice.
Governance and management
The backbone of an audit-ready provider: a governance framework and clear accountability, risk management, incident management, feedback and complaints, continuous improvement, conflict of interest, privacy and information governance, financial governance, emergency and business continuity, and your regulatory notification obligations.
Workforce and HR
Recruitment and selection, worker screening and police checks, onboarding and induction, the Aged Care Code of Conduct, training and competency, supervision, performance management, grievance and disciplinary processes, work health and safety, and whistleblower / speaking-up protections.
Clinical and service delivery
Providers delivering clinical care also need clinical governance and service-delivery policies (care planning, medication, restrictive practices, and so on). Because these carry clinical risk, they should be developed or reviewed with appropriate clinical input.
How to get audit-ready without paying consultant prices
You don't have to start from a blank page or pay four-figure consultant fees. Our Governance and HR policy packs give you plainly- priced, instant-download templates aligned to the Aged Care Act 2024 that you adopt and adapt to your organisation — and our free rules change-log tells you what's changed each month so your suite doesn't drift out of date.
Frequently asked questions
Does a small Support at Home provider need policies and procedures?
Yes. The strengthened Quality Standards expect a documented, current policy and procedure suite appropriate to the services you deliver, regardless of provider size.
Are template policies acceptable for an audit?
Templates are a legitimate starting point, but they must be tailored to your organisation and kept current. Adopt, adapt, and have them reviewed before relying on them in an assessment.
